This site has been produced as a gallery for displaying the Local Government and Shires Associations' broad range of projects and initiatives and conferences for Local Government. Shires Association of NSW Annual Conference 2008: Latch onto the Affirmative, Eliminate the Negative, Accentuate the Positive and Register Now for the 2008 Shires Conference. Over 450 delegates from member councils as well as representatives of Regional Organisations of Councils meet to discuss and set policy for the coming year. Strengthening Local Government: The Strengthening Local Government program was initiated by the LGSA in August 2006 to respond to the findings and recommendations of the Independent Inquiry into Financial Sustainability of NSW Local Government. The program is led by the Strengthening Local Government Task Force involving key Local Government stakeholders. Sustainable Choice is a sustainable purchasing program helping local government meet Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) and triple bottom line objectives. The program provides support and guidance to councils on products and services that save energy or water, contain recycled content, are non toxic, have greenhouse or biodiversity benefits, or advance council's social or environmental objectives in some way. Urban Sustainability Support Alliance (USSA) is a project that aims to help NSW councils progress towards sustainability. The USSA is a partnership made up of organisations who will deliver training and professional development sessions, establish and maintain communication networks, share experiences and lessons learnt by councils, coordinate mentoring programs; and develop tools and resources based on sound research and need. Towards Sustainable Communities: This website is a space to link, learn and share. Councils, young people and their teachers will find resources and information on how to work together on projects that will have a positive impact on the environmental, social, cultural and economic issues that face us all. This site is being developed as part of the LGSA's "Local Government working with Schools" project. Climate Change Action Pack: The LGSA is working with councils in NSW on the important issue of capacity building in Local Government for climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Associations have developed and will continue to update a Climate Change Action Pack to assist councils in preparing for climate change. LGSA Tourism Conference: This conference is not to be missed for all those councils initiating tourism projects, managing tourism and working for sustainable tourism. Local Government Careers: Whatever your background, skills and experience, there is a job in Local Government to suit you. On this site you will find information on the types of careers and apprenticeships available, details on the upcoming FREESydney Morning Herald careers exhibition, as well as tips for councils when advertising jobs. Water Loss Management Program: The Water Loss Management Program (WLMP) is a $22M joint initiative of the Local Government and Shires Associations (LGSA) of NSW, the Water Directorate and the Australian Government (through the Water Smart Australia programme). LLN Integration: Simple and practical language, literacy and numeracy integration with workplace training in Local Government. Discover why your existing training may be less effective than it could be, and why integrating LLN with workplace training is a great solution. See how councils have generated cost savings, productivity increases and more. LGSA e-Learning: This site is designed to be used as a performance support tool that will enable you to put into practice the concepts and models that support your learning in the workplace. There are a variety of subjects for you to learn about that you may find useful while working in local government. Public Art Resources Kit: This guide was developed by the Associations in response to the growing demand from councils for a practical guide to developing public art and placemaking policy. The guide can support councils and their communities to adopt an integrated approach to developing public art and placemaking initiatives.

Local Government Week 2008 provides a focus for councils to promote the importance of Local Government to the community. This year the theme is "Over the Fence: Cultivating our own Backyard" and relates to developing relationships with our neighbours, literally and metaphorically in a very multi-cultural country and embracing those differences; with sharing and communicating in positive ways, across all age groups and nationalities. 
LGSA Water Management Conference: This an annual event provides councils with a broad range of information on water management and issues primarily associated with water utilities. The annual Water Management Conference presents an opportunity for councillors, council staff, water managers, government representatives and the broader industry to tackle the key issues and discuss ways forward to achieve a sustainable future. 
Local Government Association of NSW Annual Conference 2008: Become inspired in the Silver City and register for the LGA Conference in October! Over 600 delegates from member councils as well as representatives of Regional Organisations of Councils meet to discuss and set policy for the coming year. 
Environment Awards: The Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards have been held annually by the LGSA since 1998. The Awards are open to all councils in NSW and aim to recognise outstanding achievements by NSW Local Government in managing and protecting the environment.
