Project overview
Local Government working with Schools
LGSA has engaged a project officer part-time for six months that will work with ALL environmental educators in local government in NSW. For those Councils not yet engaging in Environmental Education (EE) activities it will be an opportunity to assist and build capacity. The project will use Case Studies, on how local government is working with their schools, to showcase sustainability education outcomes.
The project hopes to:
- Tap into existing EE Networks in NSW and if no Network exists look at other existing Networks that could provide opportunities to gather information to assist the Project and if necessary look to create EE networks for local government.
- Hold workshops with existing EE networks to capture the great EE work that is occurring in local government especially with schools.
- Link into the existing Sustainable Schools network within DET & DEC to provide assistance to local government in the delivery of their EE programs.
- Developing guidelines on "Local Government working with schools to deliver Sustainability Education".
- Encouraging Website technology and its use by local government in developing and implementing EE programs. We will be seeking information to place on the Towards Sustainable Communities website so all Councils can share resources.
If you are interested in getting more involved in this project, or if you have a Network where you would like the project officer to present, contact Sue Martin sue.martin@lgsa.org.au or phone 9242 4000.
