SLG working groups
To support it responding to the inquiry recommendations the task force established five specialist working groups as well as contributed to and promoted the Department of Local Government (DLG)'s Infrastructure Task Force and its review of the strategic planning and reporting framework for NSW Local Government.
Each working group has prepared a final report on the Inquiry recommendations referred to it. The task force reviewed and endorsed each report. The reports formed the basis upon which the task force developed its final position table on all 49 recommendations.
Working groups were formed in the following areas:
- Intergovernmental Relations and Community Relations;
- Financial Management;
- Corporate Governance and Performance Measurement;
- Resource Optimising and Capacity Building; and
- Promoting Local Government Leadership.
Working groups comprised a wide range of experts and professionals from the Local Government sector, social, environmental and community groups, government departments and businesses.
With respect to infrastructure provision and asset management the task force contributed to and promoted the NSW Infrastructure Task Force in order to respond to the inquiry recommendations in this area. For further information please view the page on asset management.
Working groups operated on a voluntary basis and were responsible to the task force. They reviewed and prioritised inquiry recommendations in their area of expertise, developed and recommended to the task force suitable responses to recommendations, and, where appropriate, led the implementation of the response.

A business case template was provided as the formal means by which working groups could submit to the task force proposals for individual special projects, their purpose and budget. The template was meant to enable the task force to oversee the general approach to be followed by working groups, ensure consistency, and ensure that additional resources (if required) are allocated as effectively and efficiently as possible.
