Sustainability Health Check

The NSW Local Government Sustainability Health Check helps NSW councils in progressing and reviewing sustainability in their organisations and communities. It is a key tool for strategic planning and reporting. It can be used to identify where you are at now, providing a baseline for council strategic planning, and as a cross-council and cross-issue review tool after Strategic Plans and projects have been implemented.

All councils across NSW can now measure the extent to which sustainability practices and processes are in place within the organisation and guide strategic planning within a sustainability framework. Check out the case studies to see how other councils have used it!

The practical Sustainability Health Check helps you:

  • Take an organisation-wide approach to identifying opportunities for improving or promoting a culture of environmental, social and financial responsibility at your council.
  • Prepare your council for Long Term Integrated Planning and Reporting.
  • Review:
    • the extent to which sustainability practices and principles are in place in your council,
    • how your corporate sustainability practices and policies are documented, reviewed or reported, and
    • your council's corporate culture regarding communication around sustainability.

You can:

  • Self-assess. Download worksheets and the guide here.
  • Purchase the Sustainability Health Check package which includes CD and workbook folder for $100.00 + GST by emailing hazel@lgmansw.com.au.
  • Attend a training session on the Sustainability Health Check. Please let the LGMA know by emailing hazel@lgmansw.com.au if you would like to host a training session in your region.
  • Book an at cost in-house Sustainability Health Check session facilitated by the Local Government Managers Australia Sustainability Coordinator Hazel Storey.

The Sustainability Health Check was initiated by the LGMA NSW in partnership with the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation and Sustainable Futures Australia.
