Division C - Winner and Overall Category Winner

City of Ryde: Procuring for a Sustainable City of Ryde

In 2007 the City of Ryde formed a Sustainable Procurement Team to oversee the development of a dedicated Sustainable Procurement Policy. The Sustainable Procurement Team meets monthly with a representative from a different Council unit attending to discuss avenues of procurement in their respective unit. This process enables the team to implement sustainable procurement in a multi-tiered, blanket approach throughout Council. The Procurement team has developed a recycled content products database that is compulsory for all staff to utilise when purchasing, implemented workshops on procurement while identifying key champions, investigated and improved water and energy efficiencies throughout Council buildings and changed office consumables to greater socially and environmentally acceptable options.
