The Sustainable Choice program aims to increase the level of sustainable purchasing within the local government sector by supporting individual councils with information and skills sharing between councils on sustainable products and services.
Sustainable products are those that:
- contain recycled content
- are reused or recycled at end of life
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- save water and/or energy
- are non toxic
- help protect biodiversity and habitat
- are made or recycled locally
- minimise unnecessary purchasing
- provide long term value for money.

What's New?
Environmental Training Opportunities!
The LGSA is offering councils a range of new environmental new training workshops in sustainable procurement, climate change, natural resource management and urban sustainability.
Sustainable Choice Training is available to all council staff involved in purchasing. Delivered in-house, councils can choose from a range of modules to suit their needs.
This half-day training course is designed to improve knowledge of sustainable procurement, develop skills to identify sustainable products and overcome common barriers to sustainable purchasing.
